While England soundly beat Croatia during their opening match in the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Dallas on June 17, Harry Kane had even more reason to celebrate, since his two goals on the night meant that no other England player has ever scored more World Cup goals than him.

London born Kane, 32, who plays for Bayern Munich, represented England with the first goal in their opening game, scoring a penalty after 12-minutes. And, while Croatia evened up in the 31st minute, Kane followed up with double at the 42-minute-mark, making a header than put the ball into the bottom corner of the goal.

Croatia responded with another goal before the half time whistle could blow, but further points from England’s Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford sealed the deal in the second half, giving England their first 2026 World Cup win with a score of 4-2 in Arlington, Texas.

Harry Kane had a special reason to celebrate England’s win against Croatia

Kane’s two goals against Croatia in Group L puts him level with Gary Linekar, netting a total of ten goals in their respective World Cup careers. While Gary Linekar is retired, Kane has every chance of crushing this total going forward in the 2026 tournament.

In a recent Q&A shared via his official Instagram account, Kane explained a quirky pre-match ritual. “I put my left boot on first, left sock on first, left shin pad on first,” he shared, noting that he likes to get dressed to the left before every game. “I’ve just been doing that ever since I was younger,” he explained. And, in terms of the type of celebratory meal that Kane might eat following such a successful start to England’s campaign, the player says he likes to keep things simple. “Maybe burger and chips, cheeseburger and chips,” said Kane, sharing his go-to cheat meals. “Or a pizza.”

    Never change, Harry!

Harry Kane will have a chance further his World Cup scoring record during England’s next game against Ghana on Tuesday, June 23 in Boston.
