As Halloween approaches, two candy bars have been recalled due to undeclared nut allergens, the Food and Drug Administration announced on Monday.

Zingerman’s of Ann Arbor, Michigan, pulled two of its candy bars from stores in Michigan and New York after discovering that their packaging did not list the presence of peanuts or cashews.

The FDA said the problem was caused by a “temporary breakdown in the production and packaging processes” that has since been resolved.

People with an allergy or sensitivity to the nuts run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they eat the candy bars. So far, no illnesses have been reported.

Two Zingerman’s candy bars are under recall:

    • Peanut Butter Crush Full Size Bars, in yellow and purple 2-oz. boxes with lot number 174250
    • Ca$hew Cow Full Size Bars, in light blue and yellow 2-oz. boxes with lot number 174250

The Peanut Butter Crush bars may contain undeclared cashews, and the Cashew Cow bars may have undeclared peanuts.

If you have the recalled candy bars, return them for a full refund, the FDA advised. Consumers with any questions can also contact Zingerman’s Candy Manufactory at 877-632-9264.
