More than 8 million Thermos food jars and bottles are being recalled after several people “suffered permanent vision loss” when using the products.

An April 30 recall notice posted on United States Consumer Product Safety Commission website states that consumers “were struck by a stopper that forcefully ejected from these containers upon opening, including complaints of impact and laceration injuries requiring medical attention. Three consumers suffered permanent vision loss after being struck in the eye.”

The affected products include the Thermos Stainless King 3000 and 3020 Food Jars and the Thermos Sportsman 3010 Food & Beverage Bottles, which were sold at various retailers ― including Target, Amazon and Walmart ― between March 2008 and July 2024. The stoppers of the jars and bottles being recalled do not have a pressure relief mechanism in the center.

“If perishable food or beverages are stored in the container for an extended period of time, the stopper can forcefully eject when opened, which can result in serious impact injury and laceration hazards to the consumer,” the U.S. CPSC website states.

The products come in multiple colors and sizes, including 16 oz., 24 oz. and 40 oz. The recalled model numbers include SK3000, SK3020 and SK3010, which can be found displayed on the bottom of the containers.

The company also posted about the recall on Instagram, ABC News reported last week. HuffPost reached out via the company’s website for comment.

If you own one of the affected containers, the recall notice states that you can “contact Thermos to receive a free replacement pressure relief stopper or replacement Bottle, depending on the model.”

To get in touch about your product and start the recall process, you can visit the support page on the Thermos website or call 662-563-6822. You may be asked to send a photo or return the recalled bottle through a prepaid shipping label.

For more information about the recall, you can also visit the U.S. CPSC website.
