On Tuesday, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a recall for taco kits with a surprising, and potentially dangerous, labeling mix-up: The taco seasoning packets actually contain cocoa mix.

After receiving several customer complaints, Teasdale Foods, Inc. recalled the products—sold at Aldi, Martin’s, and Giant stores across the country—as the cocoa mix contains a milk allergen that’s not declared on the taco kit packaging.

While the seasoning mistake may be unpleasant for everyone, the recalled products pose the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction to people with a milk allergy or sensitivity. So far, no illnesses have been reported.

The recalled kits sold at Aldi, packaged in a blue and yellow box, can be identified with the following:

    • Product name: Casa Mamita Soft Taco Dinner Kit
    • UPC: 4099100318715
    • Lot code: 25259
    • Best-if-used-by date: March 15, 2026

For affected kits sold at Giant and Martin’s, in a purple box, look for:

    • Product name: Crunchy Taco Dinner Kit
    • UPC: 68826757516
    • Lot code: 25257
    • Best-if-used-by date: March 13, 2026

The kits were sold in Washington, D.C., and 27 states, listed in the FDA’s announcement.

The FDA is urging consumers to return the recalled taco kits for a full refund. You can also contact the company with any questions at teasdalecomplaints@teasdalefoods.com.
