Jodi Schneider, national educator at Vibrant Health (Shelton, CT), discussed some of the latest innovations for the herbal and botanical supplements category.

One the most important advancements is a focus on bioavailability—how well the body can absorb and utilize nutrients. Brands are increasingly investing in innovative delivery technologies, such as liposomal systems, high-potency extracts and standardized active compounds.

“The result is a new generation of supplements that deliver not just ingredients, but outcomes,” Schneider said.

Convenience and experience are also shaping purchasing decision. Consumers are gravitating toward formats that can integrate seamlessly into their daily routines. These include liquid tinctures and liposomal drops for rapid absorption, gummies and functional beverages for ease and enjoyment, and powder stick packs for portability and flexibility.

“These delivery formats not only improve compliance but also elevate the overall user experience—making it easier for customers to stay consistent with their health goals,” Schneider said.

There is also a shift away from single-ingredient products toward targeted, multi-functional formulas. Consumers are increasingly choosing “solution-based” blends designed to address specific health needs such as cognitive performance and focus, sleep and recovery, immune and gut health, and antioxidant support and detoxification.

“These synergistic formulations combine complementary ingredients that work together, often delivering more noticeable benefits than isolated compounds. For retailers, they also offer a streamlined, cost-effective solution for customers seeking simplicity,” Schneider explained.
