Attention, Costco shoppers: If you’ve recently purchased Kirkland brand sparkling wine, you may want to check your bottles.

Unopened bottles of Costco’s Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene run the risk of shattering, even when not handled or in use, according to a recent product notice sent to customers.

The potentially dangerous products are labeled with the item number 1879870.

Costco has advised customers to dispose of Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene because of a shattering risk.

The prosecco was sold at Costco stores between April 25, 2025 and August 26, 2025 in the following 12 states:

    • Iowa
    • Illinois
    • Indiana
    • Kentucky
    • Michigan
    • Minnesota
    • Missouri
    • North Dakota
    • Nebraska
    • Ohio
    • South Dakota
    • Wisconsin

Costco is advising anyone who has an unopened bottle of the prosecco in their home not to open it, and to dispose of it immediately. To do that, customers should “[wrap] the unopened bottle in paper towels and [place] it in the garbage to avoid risk from shattered glass,” the company said.

Even if you dispose of the bottle, you can still get a full refund for the purchase if you received a letter from Costco and present it at the store nearest to you.

If you have any other questions or concerns, Costco suggests contacting the winemaker, Ethica Wines, directly at customercare@ethicawines.com or 786-810-7132 during normal business hours.
