Since the release of Steven Spielberg’s Jaws in 1975, the public has had an insatiable appetite for shark movies-based-on-real-brands-from-air-and-barbie-to-blackberry-and-the-founder/” title=”8 movies based on real brands: From Air and Barbie to BlackBerry and The Founder”>movies-to-watch-this-weekend/” title=”Top 10 trending Netflix movies to watch this weekend”>movies. Every few years, Jaws resurfaces as a favorite, and the film industry continues to produce new shark-themed movies, albeit with mixed results. While some shark movies are well-made and thrilling, others are so poorly crafted that they become unintentionally entertaining. To celebrate the summer season, here are 10 terrible shark movies that are worth watching.

These movies may be poorly made, but they still offer a fun viewing experience. Many of these films were created by independent filmmakers who poured their hearts and souls into the projects, despite limited budgets and resources. The passion and dedication that went into making these movies are evident, even if the final products are flawed. Whether it’s the subpar special effects, poorly written storylines, or atrocious acting, these movies are enjoyable in their own peculiar way.

For those who appreciate a good bad movie, these films are perfect for a lighthearted evening with friends or family. They offer a chance to unwind and laugh at the absurdity of it all. One such movie is 2-Headed Shark Attack, released in 2015, which features a giant mutated shark with two heads attacking a boat full of students. The film’s bizarre premise is matched by its equally bizarre sequels, which introduce even more shark heads and larger beasts.

The success of Jaws led to the creation of several sequels, including Jaws: The Revenge, which marked the end of the franchise. This final installment introduced a supernatural element to the plot, which felt out of place in the Jaws series. The movie follows Ellen Brody, the widow of Chief Brody, as she faces off against another great white shark seeking revenge against the Brody family.

Another notable mention is Jersey Shore Shark Attack, which brings together the infamous Jersey Shore franchise and Jaws. The film delivers on its promise of reckless party-focused young adults vs man-eating sharks, despite its horrible special effects. The acting in this movie is also cringe-worthy, but entertaining, with guest appearances by Vinny Guadagnino and Joey Fatone.

Sharktopus is another bizarre movie that features a half-shark, half-octopus hybrid created as a weapon for the US Navy. The creature wreaks havoc on Mexico, and the film’s absurdity is amplified by its sequels, which introduce other hybrid creatures like the Pteracuda and the Whalewolf.

Bait is a movie that stands out from the rest, as it has the potential to be a good film despite its flaws. The movie follows a freak tsunami that traps shoppers in a supermarket with a 12-foot great white shark. While it has its moments of absurdity, the film puts effort into its plot, which is more than can be said for many other shark movies.

The Megalodon is a personal favorite, and its cruise ship scene is a memorable one. However, the rest of the movie is marred by agitating characters, a poor plot, and forced romance between the lead researchers. The shark effects are decent for its time, but that’s about it.

The Meg 2 is a sequel that fails to deliver on its promise of a colossal shark vs huge kraken fight. Instead, the film focuses on Jason Statham taking on multiple huge sharks, which doesn’t quite live up to expectations. However, the movie does offer some commentary on the marketing and control of prehistoric beasts if they were still alive today.

Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus is a wild ride that delivers on its promise of absurdity. The movie features a mega shark fighting a giant octopus, and its sequels introduce even more bizarre creatures like the Crocosaurus, Mecha Shark, and Kolossus. These films are entertaining in their own peculiar way and offer a fun viewing experience.

The Sharknado franchise is the king of terrible shark movies, with six movies, a potential prequel, a spinoff series, and a crossover. The films feature outrageous shark attacks, including a deadly hurricane that floods Los Angeles and creates a twister full of sharks. There’s no explaining why these movies are so great, but they just are.

Finally, Chum takes the top spot as one of the most recent and terrible shark movies. Released in 2026, the film features horrid special effects that might be AI-generated. Reviews of the film are scathing, but it’s still worth watching for its unintentional humor and entertainment value. With that, it’s time to grab some popcorn and enjoy these terrible shark movies this summer.
