A select number of Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches have been recalled in eight states due to an undeclared allergen, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced Tuesday. The cracker sandwiches may have been incorrectly labeled as the cheese variety, resulting in undeclared peanuts. While this poses a serious, potentially life-threatening risk to people with peanut allergies, the FDA said there have been no reports of adverse reactions so far, and the recall was issued out of an abundance of caution.

The recalled item, produced by Mondelēz Global LLC, can be identified by the following details:

    • Product description: RITZ Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches – 20 Count
    • Size: 27.6 oz. (20 x 1.38-oz. six-pack carton)
    • UPC: 44000 07584 2
    • Best-when-used-by dates: 8 JAN 26 and 15 Jan 26
    • Plant code: “AE” (located on top of package)
    • Affected quantity: 70 cases

    Walmart

The individually wrapped six-packs may be mislabeled as cheese, but the FDA said the outer boxes are labeled correctly and list the peanut allergen.

The recalled cracker sandwiches were sold at select retailers, including Walmart, in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Alabama.

Throw out the recalled product if you or someone in your household has a peanut allergy, the FDA advised. Customers can also contact Mondelēz Global with any questions at 1-844-366-1171.
