Vanilla Ice Cream Recalled Over Labeling Mix-Up

Publix has voluntarily recalled a select number of ice cream cartons from stores in six states, the grocer announced on Oct. 14.

The brand’s Rich & Creamy French Vanilla Ice Cream was accidentally put in containers labeled as regular vanilla, with a mismatched french vanilla lid.

This packaging mistake means there’s an undeclared egg allergen in the product—posing a risk of severe or life-threatening allergic reactions for people with egg allergies or sensitivities.

The recall impacts one lot of Publix Rich & Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream, with a Publix Rich & Creamy French Vanilla Ice Cream lid.

The recalled products can also be identified with the following:

    • Size: Half gallon
    • UPC: 41415 03043
    • Sell-by date: June 19, 2026 A

The recalled ice cream was distributed to Publix stores in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Florida—except for locations in Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Tampa, and Sarasota.

It’s not clear when the affected ice cream was available for purchase, but as of Oct. 14, all of the recalled products have been removed from store shelves.

Publix is advising all customers to return the recalled ice cream to their local store for a full refund.

To date, there have been no reported illnesses associated with the labeling mix-up, according to Publix Director of Communications Maria Brous.

Brous also said customers with any questions can contact Publix at 1-800-242-1227 or visit its website.
