Nearly 3,000 pounds of ground beef have been recalled across six states, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced on Dec. 27. The recalled beef, from the brand Forward Farms, may be contaminated with E. coli, a pathogen that can cause severe foodborne illness. No infections have been reported to date, but FSIS still gave the recall the highest risk level.
The recalled beef, produced by Mountain West Food Group, LLC, can be identified with the following information:
- Product name: Forward Farms Grass-Fed Ground Beef
- Size: 16 oz (1 lb)
- Packaging: Vacuum-sealed
- Use-by dates: Jan. 7, 2026, and Jan. 13, 2026

The recalled product was distributed in California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Pennsylvania, and Washington.

Check your fridge and freezer for the recalled beef. If you have it, do not use it—throw it out or return it for a refund.
If you think you’ve eaten contaminated beef, monitor for symptoms of E. coli, including vomiting and diarrhea (often bloody). Seek medical attention if you do not recover within a week, or if you develop symptoms of hemolytic uremic syndrome, a type of kidney failure and a potential complication of E. coli infections.
