Nearly 128,000 pounds of microwavable pulled pork sandwiches were recalled because they may pose a dangerous choking hazard.

E.A. Sween Company, based in Eden Prairie, Minn., alerted customers that their Deli Express BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich could contain pieces of plastic. The contamination likely came from gallon plastic barbecue bottles that were used in the production process.

The recall was first posted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Oct. 27.

No injuries have been reported so far. However, the recall has been given a Class I risk level by the USDA, which means consuming the sandwiches could cause “serious, adverse health consequences or death.”

The plastic contamination could have affected Deli Express BBQ Pulled Pork sandwiches produced as early as Jan. 13, and as recently as Oct. 15, 2025.

Customers can identify the recalled ready-to-eat sandwiches by looking for the following information:

    • Product name and size: 5.5-oz. paper wrapped “Deli Express BBQ Pulled Pork on a sesame bun” sandwiches
    • UPC: 0-41433-13087-2
    • USDA mark of inspection: EST. 2451
    • Consumer lot codes: 1915013, 1915020, 1915024, 1915051, 1915065, 1915071, 1915093, 1915104, 1915114, 1915135, 1915140, 1915148, 1915169, 1915218, 1915226, 1915232, 1915254, 1915288, 1915301

The potentially contaminated BBQ Pulled Pork sandwiches were sold at convenience stores, grocery stores, and other mass retail locations between Jan. 16 and Oct. 23.

They were distributed across the entire continental U.S., as well as Hawaii and Guam. According to the USDA, the recalled sandwiches were also sent to the Department of Defense.

The recalled products should no longer be on store shelves—E.A. Sween Company said it instructed all retailers to remove the affected Deli Express sandwiches from their inventories immediately.

Consuming plastic pieces can be dangerous, particularly because it’s a choking hazard. So if you have any of the recalled sandwiches in your refrigerator or freezer, don’t eat them. Instead, throw them away or return them.

If you did eat one of the affected products, monitor for any injuries and see a healthcare provider if you’re concerned.

Customers can contact E.A. Sween Company if they have any questions. Call 1-800-328-8184 and select #2 for further information on weekdays between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm.
