More than 2 million pounds of barbecue pork jerky sold at Costco and Sam’s Club stores nationwide have been recalled, the United States Department of Agriculture announced Friday.

South Dakota-based LSI, Inc. initiated the recall of Golden Island Fire-Grilled Korean Barbecue Pork Jerky pouches after people reported finding wiry pieces of metal in the product.

The USDA gave the recall a Class I certification, meaning that the products have a “reasonable probability” of “serious adverse health consequences or death” if consumed.

Ingesting metal fragments could cause punctures to the mouth and throat—and in more severe cases, the stomach or intestines.

The recalled ready-to-eat jerky, shipped to Costco and Sam’s Club stores nationwide, can be identified with the following:

    • Product name: Golden Island Fire-Grilled Pork Jerky Korean Barbecue Recipe
    • Size: 14.5-ounce and 16-ounce plastic pouches
    • Establishment number: M279A
    • Expiration dates: From Sept. 23, 2025 through Oct. 23, 2025

See here for the complete product list, including lot numbers and specific expiration dates.

There have been no confirmed reports of injury linked to the metal contamination, which LSI, Inc. determined originated from the conveyor belt used in production.

According to the USDA, customers who have an affected product should throw it away or return it to the place of purchase.

Anyone who may have eaten the jerky and is concerned about a possible injury should contact a healthcare provider, the USDA advised.
