Lone Star Botanicals is a Texas-based health and wellness family of brands that includes Dr. Botanical Health, Carmalete’s, Steak Beast and Lone Star Botanicals. The brand was launched in 2017 and has spent the years since establishing a reputation around providing premium natural health products, including herbs, spices, teas, seasoning blends and superfood powders. The company is woman-owned, veteran-owned, family-operated, Texas-proud, and its products are made in the U.S. Its mission is to simplify wellness through accessible, pure, responsibly sourced ingredients produced and packaged in-house for a large and growing number of American consumers.

Hollie Kerzee is the owner and creative force behind Lone Star Botanicals. With a nursing and natural wellness background, she has a deep understanding of how herbs can support the body’s healing processes. Her passion for natural health—and her love for herbs and spices—ultimately inspired the creation of Lone Star Botanicals.

Kerzee developed the vision and her husband, Tommy Kerzee, helped turn that vision into a reality. As business owners, they know that running a company isn’t a Monday–Friday job—it’s something you live and breathe every day.

Tommy Kerzee is a disabled Marine Corps veteran, and he personally uses several of the products they offer to help ease the joint and muscle pain he carries from his service. Together, the couple combine years of research, dedication, and lived experience to guide the mission and values behind Lone Star Botanicals.

Here, Hollie Kerzee discusses the start of the business, as well as its growth.

Question: Please describe the beginnings of your company.

Answer: I developed the idea for Lone Star Botanicals after experiencing the healing power of herbs and spices firsthand during a health crisis with my firstborn son. He suffered from asthma and struggled to do everyday activities that other kids his age enjoyed. Determined to find a natural way to support his health, I began boiling herbs like thyme and oregano at home and having him breathe in the natural steam. I also changed the types of foods her family ate.

The results were life changing. While it wasn’t a quick fix, it became a completely new way of living for the me and my family—one that left us healthier, happier and inspired by the impact of herbs and spices.

Question: Lone Star Botanicals is family-owned and operated. Please describe who is working with the company.

Answer: All of Tommy and my children are involved in the business in one way or another, and even Tommy’s mom manages one of the stores. Those who aren’t family by blood still feel like family. Our team is a close-knit group, and that sense of community is something we value deeply. We celebrate every employee’s birthday each year and host regular holiday gatherings at the Kerzee ranch.

At Lone Star Botanicals, the goal is always to source products as locally as possible. The priority is Texas; if that isn’t possible, the next step is sourcing within the United States. Most of the company’s inventory comes from U.S. and European suppliers. Lone Star Botanicals works with several local vendors they love and trust, making them the first stop when sourcing new ingredients. The team especially enjoys crafting products that reflect their Texas roots—like their Texas Bentonite Clay powder, proudly packaged in red, white and blue.

Question: How is the company progressing and what products are you focusing on?

Answer: Lone Star Botanicals has been growing rapidly. What began as an online-only business is now breaking into grocery chains, such as Sprouts and Brookshire’s. Our family is grateful for the growth, but even more excited that more people are being introduced to the power of herbs and spices. Our best-selling product by far is the Organic Blue Spirulina powder and capsules. Their superfood powders have exploded in popularity this year, fueled by customers’ enthusiasm for having both powder and capsule options.

Recently, we have been getting more creative, expanding into wellness blends rather than offering only single-ingredient products. One of our upcoming launches, Campfire Cocoa, has already received incredibly positive feedback. It’s a healthier take on hot chocolate, crafted with several superfood powders—another example of the company’s commitment to delicious, natural, wellness-focused products.
