More than two dozen cantaloupe products have been recalled due to a risk of Listeria monocytogenes, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced Monday.

Wholesale Produce Supply, a food supplier based in Minneapolis, voluntarily recalled fresh-cut and processed cantaloupe after routine testing revealed possible Listeria contamination.

Here’s what you need to know if you’ve purchased cantaloupe recently.

The fresh-cut cantaloupe was sold in plastic clamshell containers under the “Harvest Cuts” and “Fresh and Finest” brands.

The recall affects both cantaloupe-only items and products that contain other fresh-cut fruits.

Products were sold to distributors in Nebraska, North Dakota, and Wisconsin, but may have been distributed in other states as well.

A full list of the recalled cantaloupe products, along with UPCs and lot numbers, can be found here.

The recall resulted from Wholesale Produce Company’s routine sampling, which revealed that the cantaloupe may contain Listeria. The company is currently investigating what may have caused the contamination.

No illnesses have been reported in association with the recalled cantaloupe.

If you’ve purchased any of the “Harvest Cuts” or “Fresh and Finest” cantaloupe products affected by the recall, you should throw them away or return them for a full refund.

If you’re concerned you may have eaten any affected cantaloupe, be aware of the following Listeria symptoms and consider seeking medical care.

Listeria infections are typically short-lived but can be serious and potentially fatal for young children, elderly people, or those with weakened immune systems. In pregnant women, Listeria can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths.

If you have any other questions, you can contact Wholesale Produce Supply at 612-378-2025 and ask for Steve Foster, VP of Food Safety & Quality.
