- Chipotle launches a high-protein menu Dec. 23 with items containing 15 to 81 grams of protein.
- New options include bowls, burritos, tacos and a first-ever chicken snack cup.
- “GLP-1 friendly” picks focus on protein and fiber; more celeb-backed options arrive Jan. 5.
Today, Chipotle announced that the chain is getting serious about your nutrition goals. On December 23, the chain will debut a brand-new high-protein menu, with food items ranging from 15 to 81 grams of protein.
“70% of Americans say they are prioritizing protein and more than one-third have increased their intake in the past year,” the company states in a press release, referring to data from the International Food Information Council. “With the rise of GLP-1s and a broader focus on macronutrients, Chipotle’s new High Protein Menu offers more ways for guests to get the protein they want in the portions that work for them, whether that is a lighter bite or a more substantial build.”
So what exactly does this menu entail? Here’s the complete list of new menu items, including a first-ever portable snack option for lovers of their chicken or steak.
First up, the options that will be on menus next week:
- Double High Protein Bowl: A burrito bowl with double adobo chicken, white rice, black beans, fajita veggies, fresh tomato salsa, Monterey Jack cheese and extra romaine lettuce (760 calories, 81g protein, 11g fiber)
- High Protein-High Fiber Bowl: A bowl with adobo chicken, brown rice, black beans, fajita veggies, roasted chili corn salsa, fresh tomato salsa and romaine lettuce (540 calories, 46g protein, 14g fiber)
- High Protein-Low Calorie Salad: A salad with adobo chicken, Supergreens lettuce mix, fajita veggies, fresh tomato salsa and guacamole (470 calories, 36g protein, 10g fiber)
- Double High Protein Burrito: A burrito with double adobo chicken, fresh tomato salsa, fajita veggies, Monterey Jack cheese and romaine lettuce (840 calories, 79g protein, 6g fiber)
- High Protein Cup with Adobo Chicken: A 4-ounce snack cup of adobo chicken (180 calories, 32g protein)
- Adobo Chicken Taco: A taco with a soft flour tortilla, adobo chicken, fajita veggies, fresh tomato salsa, Monterey Jack cheese and romaine lettuce (190 calories, 15g protein)
Yes, their new snack is a $3.82 cup of chicken, and you can also order the high protein cup with steak instead. We’re all for a little snacking chicken, especially if you particularly like Chipotle’s seasoned adobo chicken. But for vegetarian options, our make-ahead high-protein snacks are just as easy to grab come lunchtime.
Chipotle. EatingWell design.
Chipotle is touting their new fiber-packed options as “GLP-1 friendly,” meaning that those taking a GLP-1 will be prioritizing the right nutrients when ordering these meals. Focusing on protein and fiber is important as it will support muscle growth and gut health, respectively.
But that’s not all. On January 5, Chipotle will also have three better-for-you orders on their menu for guests to easily order on the app or online. This includes Josh Hart’s High Protein Burrito (the New York Knicks star’s order, which is a creamier, cheesier version of the above Double High Protein Burrito), Smaller Sam’s High Protein Tacos (health content creator Samantha Milton’s go-to order, which is crispy corn tortilla tacos with chicken, light roasted chili-corn salsa, and fajita veggies with sides of tomatillo-red chili salsa and sour cream) and Kylie’s High Protein Chicken Bowl (a chicken and rice bowl with extra veggies and beans developed by dietitian Kylie Sakaida).
If you can’t wait until next week to try the initial roll out, we totally get it. Hopefully our high-protein Chicken Burrito Bowls paired with our Copycat Chipotle Corn Salsa can hold you over in the meantime.
