Over the years, Wisconsin-based EuroPharma, maker of the Terry Naturally supplement brand, found that many consumers choose from either the CuraMed or Curamin product lines to address pain and inflammation.
According to Cheryl Myers, chief of scientific affairs and education at EuroPharma, the aptly named CuraMed Acute Pain Relief is a must for anyone who gets aches from bursts of activity and needs acute pain relief.
“It includes BCM-95 curcumin, the most clinically studied enhanced-absorption curcumin in the world, along BOS-10 boswellia and black sesame oil, which acts as an emulsifier and allowed us to develop a small, quick-dissolve soft gel that is easy to swallow,” Myers explained. “Black sesame oil has been traditionally used in ayurvedic medicine to aid in carrying and dispersing fat-soluble ingredients and has strong anti-inflammatory properties of its own, so it’s an ideal choice to combine with these two other botanical superstars.”
It has also been shown to be as effective as the popular over-the-counter option acetaminophen (e.g. Tylenol).
“In a clinical study, curcumin, boswellia, and black sesame oil emulsified using this special process matched acetaminophen in reducing pain in just one hour, and matched the reduction of intensity and pain magnitude, holding steady all the way through seven-day study, too,” Myers explained. “Additionally, the botanical combination was 8.5 times better than acetaminophen at reducing the emotional distress and unpleasantness associated with pain, including the feelings of fatigue, fearfulness, and the sense of being ‘punished’ by pain.”
For those suffering with chronic pain or conditions like osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, but who also wants to be active, the Curamin and Curamin Extra Strength may be the right choice. They contain the same clinically studies curcumin and boswellia in CuraMed Acute Pain Relief along with d,l-phenylalanine (DLPA) and nattokinase.
“DLPA contains two forms of the amino acid, phenylalanine. The “l” form improves mood-elevating chemicals in the brain, such as dopamine, epinephrine, and norepinephrine. The “d” form of phenylalanine appears to block a nervous system enzyme that would otherwise intensify pain signals,” Myers explained. “DLPA helps prevent the breakdown of one of the brain’s natural pain-killing substances, enkephalins, which are in the same family as endorphins. Each formula also includes a small amount of nattokinase, an enzyme that increases microcirculation, and which can enable the other ingredients to respond to inflammation even more effectively. It helps facilitate nutrient delivery to the joint capsule as well.”
Myers concluded, “As I mentioned, both the BCM-95 curcumin alone and combined with BOS-10 boswellia have been clinically shown to reduce pain and support mobility in cases of arthritis, comparing favorably to prescription and over the counter medications. They help relieve chronic pain, increase walking distance and physical comfort—even those who would have categorized themselves as having ‘severe arthritis’ before participating in those studies. Following one such study, participants instead felt so much relief that they re-categorized themselves as having ‘mild or moderate arthritis.’ That’s quite a change!”
