Trader Joe’s popular frozen chicken fried rice products have been recalled due to potential contamination with a foreign material—specifically glass—the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Thursday. The Trader Joe’s recall is part of a larger recall, initiated by Ajinomoto Foods North America, Inc., of more than 3.3 million pounds of frozen chicken fried rice.
The entire recall involves approximately 3,370,530 pounds of frozen, not ready-to-eat (NRTE), chicken fried rice products that were produced between September 8, 2025, and November 17, 2025.
The products were sold under the brand names Trader Joe’s and Ajinomoto, and can be identified by the following information:
Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken with Japanese-Style Fried Rice:
USDA
- Size: 1.53 kg cardboard packages containing six bags each.
- Best-by dates: 26 SE 09 through 26 NO 12
- Establishment number: P-18356
Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice with Stir-Fried Rice, Vegetables, Seasoned Dark Chicken Meat, and Eggs:
USDA
- Size: 20 oz (1 lb 4 oz) plastic bags
- Best-by dates: 9/8/2026 through 11/17/2026
- Establishment number: P-18356
The Trader Joe’s items were shipped to and sold at Trader Joe’s retail locations nationwide, while the Ajinomoto items were exported only to Canada.
The recall was initiated after the company received four customer complaints reporting the presence of glass in the products. However, no injuries have been reported in connection with this recall.
Retailers or customers may still have the recalled products in their freezers. The FSIS is urging anyone who may have the products not to eat them and to throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.
Additionally, Trader Joe’s said customers may contact Customer Relations at (626) 599-3817 with any questions. Customers may also submit a Product Feedback form on the company’s website.
