On Jan. 20, Real Mushrooms (Calgary, AB, Canada), a 100 percent organic mushroom extracts brand founded by father-son team, Jeff and Skye Chilton, announced it is acquiring the legacy brand Mushroom Science. Both companies have a long history of advocating for transparency in mushroom product labeling—including potency and proper extraction for health benefits delivery.
Founded by the late John Seleen, Mushroom Science has been offering pure and effective functional mushroom supplements since 1994. It was the first brand to educate customers about the difference between products made from mushrooms and those that are mycelium fermented grain, according to the company. Both Real Mushrooms and Mushroom Science have long-standing relationships with mushroom growers in China where mushroom growing has been an art and science for centuries.
Mushroom Science products are sold direct to consumer, by natural products retailers and to practitioners. Real Mushrooms are sold direct to consumer and through health care practitioners.
