A protein powder has been recalled across 37 states, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The product, made by Genepro Protein, Inc., was initially recalled in early November due to an undeclared allergen; the label claims the protein powder is “Lactose Free,” “Dairy Free,” and “Allergen Free,” but it actually contains milk. On Dec. 11, the FDA gave the recall a Class I risk level, which indicates the highest risk of adverse effects from consuming the product.

The recalled protein powder can be identified with the following:

    • Product name: Genepro Whey 4th Generation Plasma Treated Protein, unflavored
    • Net weight: 225 g, 30 servings
    • Packaging: Resealable mylar bag
    • UPC: 850053365126
    • Lot code: 250214
    • Best-by date: Feb. 13, 2027

The affected product was distributed in Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Dakota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Vermont, Washington, and Wyoming.

Check if your protein powder is affected by the recall. If it is, the safest option is to stop using it and return it for a refund or replacement—even if you can consume milk.
