A cooking pan has been recalled in six states due to potential lead contamination, the Food and Drug Administration announced Nov. 19. Shata Traders Inc. voluntarily recalled its Chef Brand Milk Pan because it may contain significant levels of lead that can leach into food. While children are more susceptible to lead toxicity, the heavy metal is toxic to everyone, and there is no safe level of exposure.

The recall applies to the Chef Brand Milk Pan from Shata Traders. The pan is 24 cm in diameter and was distributed in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, Virginia, and Massachusetts.

Look for the recalled pan in your kitchen. If you have it, do not use it. Instead, return it to the store for a full refund.

If you’ve already used the pan, monitor for symptoms of lead exposure. Higher levels of lead exposure can cause:

    • Fatigue
    • Headache
    • Stomach pain
    • Vomiting
    • Neurologic changes

In children, low levels of lead exposure can cause trouble learning, low IQ, and behavior changes.
