Recalled Neutrogena makeup wipes have been given the second-highest risk level by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the agency announced earlier this month.
Kenvue Brands, LLC, initially recalled a select number of Neutrogena Makeup Remover wipes shipped to four states on Sept. 19, 2025.
During an internal investigation, the company discovered that the wipes tested positive for Pluralibacter gergoviae, a type of bacteria resistant to preservatives in many personal care products.
Infections with P. gergoviae are rare, but in people with weakened immune systems, it’s been linked to respiratory diseases, urinary tract infections, eye infections, and sepsis.
The recall affects certain packs of Neutrogena makeup wipes with the following information:
- Product Name: Neutrogena Makeup Remover Ultra-Soft Cleansing Towelettes, 50ct. 25-pack wipes
- Lot Number: Lot 1835U6325A

The recalled wipes were distributed to Texas, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.
The recall’s Class II risk level is a “medium-severity classification.” It indicates that the makeup wipes “may cause temporary or medically reversible health effects,” but that “the probability of serious health consequences is remote.”
Kenvue Brands did not share a press release for this recall, so there’s no available information on what to do if you have the recalled wipes. Typically, consumers are urged to stop using a recalled product and throw it away or return it to the store for a refund.
