    • Megan Thee Stallion cooks catfish with spaghetti weekly for Klay Thompson.
    • The Southern dish is easy to recreate at home—and Thompson calls it a favorite meal.
    • Simple swaps like whole wheat pasta can lighten up this comforting recipe.

Rapper and all-around “Hot Girl” Megan Thee Stallion has a jam-packed schedule—she’s everywhere from concerts to red carpets and, yes, even episodes of Love Island. But that doesn’t mean Meg doesn’t have time to get creative in the kitchen.

The songwriter recently shared a quick video on her Instagram dishing up a delicious looking meal that she says her boyfriend, basketball player Klay Thompson of the Dallas Mavericks, asks for “every week.” Catfish with spaghetti and red sauce is a classic Southern meal—though it’s also claimed by Midwesterners—so it makes sense that a Texan like Meg would have it on regular rotation. Thompson had never tried the combo before, but now he gives it rave reviews.

In her video, the rapper shows off a stovetop with heaping piles of spaghetti and red sauce next to frying catfish sizzling in a pan. She serves the meal with a Hawaiian roll and a glass of red wine alongside a bottle of Louisiana Hot Sauce to take the Southern flavors to the next level.

After Thompson takes his first bite in front of the television, he says the dish is “the best thing I’ve ever tasted—my favorite meal.” This plate looks absolutely delectable, and the comments on Megan’s post are full of people itching to have a bite. Honestly, we’re right there with them.

To make your own pro-athlete-approved comforting meal at home, you can fry the catfish in oil like Megan does, or bake it for a similar but slightly lighter outcome. The cornmeal coating gives the fish a tasty crispiness and the Cajun spices infuse the mild fish with major flavor. And if you’re not a big catfish fan, an option like our Air-Fryer Beer-Battered Fish—made with cod—could be a solid substitute.

Another healthy substitute would be to use whole wheat pasta for the spaghetti, which will add a little extra fiber and staying power to this meal. For the red sauce, there’s nothing wrong with a good jarred marinara, but we’re also fond of our easy No-Peel Slow-Cooker Marinara.

Even if you’re not a professional athlete like Thompson, a comforting meal like catfish with spaghetti could offer some inspiration for your next post-workout meal—or you can just enjoy it at the end of a long day at work. Either way, you might end up adding this one to your weekly lineup again and again.
