Something that sets Mindful Care apart from other online therapy companies is the fact that it offers group therapy. This is different from a support group, which doesn’t require the facilitator to be a mental health professional or require the group members to make a commitment to attend every week. Mindful Care offers 18 different types of group therapy for different communities and challenges, including “Red,” a therapy group for people struggling with anger.
In the “Red” group, members will learn to “manage anger effectively through mindfulness and cognitive restructuring, improving emotional health, communication, and responses to triggers,” according to Mindful Care’s site. This means that, as a group, you will work on coping skills and alternate ways of approaching the things that normally would make you angry, bringing awareness to your thoughts and behaviors and essentially training your brain to react differently in the face of anger.
I had two people try Mindful Care’s services, including its group therapy, though not the “Red” group—instead, they both participated in “Rise,” a therapy group “for life’s challenges.” One of my testers really enjoyed this group; she felt as though the facilitator (who was a licensed therapist) was skilled and fostered an atmosphere of openness and trust, which is especially important for people dealing with anger issues who need a nonjudgmental space to explore their issues and really dig deep.
Of the 100 Mindful Care users I surveyed, 12% reported that they were struggling with anger, and 6% were taking part in group therapy.
“Overall, I felt like the group was very supportive of each other and non-judgmental. It was a safe place to talk about anything. The vibe was very positive and the group really wanted to help other participants reach their respective goals and to help them work through any issues they are dealing with. I appreciated how there was an opportunity for each participant to ‘check in’ and give an update on how he or she is feeling in that present moment at the beginning of each Zoom session. Other participants then had a chance to validate their feelings or share similar experiences or moments that they went through.”

Mindful Care is unfortunately only available in six states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida, Michigan, and Illinois. In addition, although it has a therapy group for anger management, it doesn’t specifically cite “anger” in the list of issues its therapists can treat individually. However, it does explain that this list is not comprehensive, so you might still be able to receive individual therapy for anger management.
