    • DIY food-themed costumes make for creative, easy and last-minute Halloween fun for all ages.
    • From grapes and mac & cheese to Cosmic Brownies and cotton candy, these ideas use simple materials.
    • Classic picks like pumpkins or clever ones like “chef’s kiss” keep costumes festive and funny.

Halloween is one of the most special days of the season. With pumpkin carving, scary movies and heaps of candy, there’s nothing quite like the fall holiday. And of course, the costumes are arguably the most essential part of the festivities. But if you need some inspiration for a last-minute costume, these food costumes are bound to be winners.

Whether you’re celebrating this weekend or on October 31, we curated some easy Halloween costumes that your inner or fellow foodie will love. These costumes are suitable for adults and kids, and they’re simple enough to find the materials for and make at home. Here are some ‘fits we’re absolutely loving and may need to riff on this week.

    1. Salad

While loading up on caramel apples and chocolate bars, bring balance to the party with this salad costume. Tape on some green tissue paper and your favorite toppings made of construction paper and hold your go-to salad dressing bottle.

    2. Grapes

Blow up some balloons and grab a friend! Transform into a vine of green or purple grapes for big laughs. You may be a popping/loud noise hazard throughout the night, but that only adds to the fright, so it’s totally worth it.

    3. Mac & Cheese

If you have some extra paper towel or toilet paper rolls on hand, paint them yellow and become a box (or bowl) of macaroni and cheese. It’s almost as easy as Easy Mac!

    4. Cosmic Brownie

Little Debbie fans, this one is for you. All you need is some colorful cotton balls scattered on a brown dress or outfit to recreate the iconic Cosmic Brownie. (While we have you, if you’re a fan of the treat, you definitely need to try our Cosmic Brownie–Inspired Overnight Oats).

    5. Chef’s Kiss

This costume is popular among Gen Z, and we love a pun, so we have to include it. Use a stamp or decal to add kiss marks on a white chef outfit to literally become *chef’s kiss*. All we can say is, mwah, perfection.

    6. Corn

In the theme of corn mazes, embrace the maize this season with this corn costume. Large yellow pom poms for the kernels and green felt for the husk should do the trick. You can even make a headband with hay on top to bring it up a notch!

    7. Morton Salt Girl

If you have a yellow dress and an umbrella, you can immediately become the mascot of Morton Salt. The legendary Morton Salt Girl needs no explanation, and the costume practically needs no work to make.

    8. Cotton Candy

This costume is a sweet treat—literally. Have pink cotton ready to transform into some fluffy cotton candy. Make sure you have a cone-shaped hat to complete the look!

    9. Snap, Crackle & Pop

Truly any cereal mascot is a winning costume idea, but if you have a group of three, the Rice Krispies’ team is a perfect fit. Just color coordinate the shirts, label hats with your names, and you’re set!

    10. Ice Cream Cone

Bring the ice cream to the function with this attire. A cardboard base for the cone paired with a white peplum top with taped-on confetti, and you got a costume that’s as easy as 1-2-3.

    11. Gumball Machine

Turn yourself into a gumball machine by gluing colorful pom-poms on your shirt with a “25¢” label underneath. But when someone asks for a gumball, make sure you say it’s out of order!

    12. Lobster

Got some red solo cups and two red oven mitts lying around? Quickly transform into a lobster with this DIY idea. Simple yet ridiculous, it’s easy to put together and is sure to get laughs.

    13. Pineapple

Summer is gone, but that doesn’t mean you can’t dress like last season’s favorite fruit. Create the pineapple leaves by layering construction paper vertically, ensuring there’s a sturdy base. Complete with a yellow shirt with some triangles to resemble its texture.

    14. Frosted Animal Cracker

It’s so quick to transform into a frosted animal cracker (dare I say, the best kind?) It’s bright, fun and recognizable. Bring a bag of the cookie-cracker with you to complete the look—and for extra snacks.

    15. Pumpkin

A classic, but you really can’t go wrong with becoming a pumpkin. It’s on theme no matter what, and it’s easy to DIY. Plus, it’s an ideal last-minute costume for any personality as you can dress it up or down.

    16. Ina Garten

Technically not a food costume, but we’re counting it because it’s too perfect. All you need is a blue button down, some slacks and a bob to become the Barefoot Contessa. Once you recreate her look, you’ll be thinking to yourself, “How easy was that?” (Bonus points if you have a Jeffrey to do a couples costume with!)

    17. Skittles

This costume is ideal if you’re looking to dress up for the office. It’s comfortable and simple, but it will make those around you smile. And you can use the same technique to become other candies, like M&Ms, Starburst or even Swedish Fish!

    18. Life Savers

On a similar note, if you have some inner tubes lying around from the summer fun, you can reuse them for this Life Savers costume. Once you have the label ready, it will take seconds to create, so it’s an on-the-fly success.

    19. Taco Bell Hot Sauces

Dress up the whole family as the various types of Taco Bell hot sauces. Looking at these costumes makes us want to hit up the drive-thru and order the Cantina Chicken Bowl (extra hot sauce on the side, duh).

    20. Bucket of Candy

Finally, become every trick-or-treaters goal by making yourself the bucket of candy every kid strives for. You can customize to display your favorite candy; use some empty wrappers to fill up your basket. You’re welcome for the excuse to eat some candy ahead of time.
