A cozy bowl of soup can be just what you need as the temperature drops outside. These delicious, hearty soups are lower in saturated fat and sodium, which can help support heart health. Plus, each serving has at least 15 grams of protein, an essential nutrient that helps with muscle repair, bone health, digestion and more. Options like our Pho-Inspired Beef Noodle Soup and Instant Pot Chicken Soup with Root Vegetables & Barley will warm you up and keep you feeling your best.

    Pho-Inspired Beef Noodle Soup

Pho is a traditional Vietnamese noodle dish made with rice noodles and meat, and served in a flavorful, clear broth with a multitude of garnishes. For this recipe, we’ve used unsalted beef broth seasoned with garlic, ginger, pepper, cinnamon, and clove.

Instant Pot Chicken Soup with Root Vegetables & Barley

Be sure to use bone-in chicken here—it enhances the flavor of the broth, and the bones are easy to remove after cooking. This healthy chicken soup can be made in an Instant Pot or pressure cooker.

Cream of Turkey & Wild Rice Soup

Got leftover cooked chicken or turkey? Cook up a pot of soup! This low-sodium soup recipe is a healthier twist on a classic creamy turkey and wild rice soup that hails from Minnesota. Serve with a crisp romaine salad and whole-grain bread.

Chicken Spinach Soup with Fresh Pesto

This fragrant soup takes advantage of quick-cooking ingredients—boneless, skinless chicken breast, bagged baby spinach and canned beans. It features a simple homemade basil pesto, which is swirled in at the end to add a fresh herb flavor. If you are very pressed for time, you can substitute 3 to 4 tablespoons of a store-bought basil pesto.

    Quick Beef & Barley Soup

Quick-cooking barley and sirloin helps get this beef-and-barley soup on the table in a snap—and it doubles easily. Serve with crusty bread and a glass of malbec.

    Healthy Chicken Tortilla Soup

Rather than using store-bought tortilla chips, which are usually deep-fried, we skip the mess (and dangerous hot oil) by baking the corn tortillas instead. The result is a crispy topping that saves on sodium and completes a bowl of this healthy chicken soup.

    Red Lentil Soup with Saffron

    Jacob Fox

This hearty red lentil soup uses spices common in Persian cuisine: turmeric, cumin and saffron. Enjoy it with a warm baguette or steamed rice.

    Lemony Chicken & Rice Soup

The Greek lemon-chicken soup avgolemono is the inspiration for this 20-minute recipe. Eggs and lemon are tempered into the broth to add richness and creaminess. You can use microwaveable brown rice or use 1 cup leftover rice if you have it on hand.

Chicken & Cabbage Soup with Pesto

This one-pot chicken and cabbage soup is topped with flavor-boosting store-bought pesto. Big, fiber-rich butter beans add a creamy bite, but you can easily swap them out for cannellini beans or navy beans if you prefer. This soup works well with leftover chicken—simply shred or chop cooked chicken and add it to the soup to reheat once the cabbage is tender.

Split Pea Soup with Ham Bone

Split pea soup gets its smokiness from a ham bone and a dash of smoked paprika. The split peas break down as they cook, picking up flavor and delivering a creamy texture to this rich and warming soup.

    Chicken & White Bean Soup

Rotisserie chickens can really relieve the dinner-rush pressure—especially in this Italian-inspired soup that cries out for a piece of crusty bread and a glass of red wine.

    Vegetable and Tofu Soup

Tofu has a reputation for being bland, but when marinated in Italian seasoning for up to four hours, it’s anything but in this veggie-packed soup.

Chicken Noodle Soup with Spinach & Parmesan

Photographer: Jen Causey, Food Stylist: Emily Nabors Hall , Prop Stylist: Shell Royster

Wine and garlic add depth to this quick and simple chicken noodle soup. The pasta will absorb broth as the soup sits, so if you want to make a double batch or are planning on eating this over multiple days, cook the pasta separately and add it when you’re ready to serve.

    5-Spice Chicken Noodle Soup

This chicken soup recipe has soy, five-spice powder and ginger, which add a flavor punch.
